Obituary for Andrew J. Majer
Majer, Andrew James -87 of Portage, passed away on October 25, 2017 in Johnstown. He was born on December 17, 1929 in Portage Township. The son of John and Anna (Slachta) Majer. Andrew is preceded in death by his parents and these siblings: John and George Majer, Sue Figerod, Ann Smindak, Helen Maul and Mary Markovich.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Dorothy (Harchuck) Majer. He is also survived by his sons: Andrew D. Majer and wife Ursula of Philadephia and Mark A. Majer and girlfriend Erin of Warriors Mark, and grandson, Andrew F. Majer of Philadelphia.
Andrew served his Country proudly as a Korean War Army Veteran. He attended Penn State University and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree from St. Francis University in 1958. He was a retired Industrial Hygienist and worked as an Air Quality Specialist with over 38 years of service for the State of Pennsylvania. Andrew was the co-author of books and pamphlets on indoor air quality and noise control. He was a member of the Portage American Legion, Post #430, the Portage VFW, Post #895 and the Portage AMVETS, Post #150. Most importantly, Andrew enjoyed traveling to the beach and spending time with family and friends.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage, where Parastas will be held that evening at 5:30 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Monday at the funeral home, Fr. James Spontak, celebrant. Interment at Holy Name Catholic Church Cemetery in Ebensburg. Graveside Military Rites by the Portage Ritual Team.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Andrews name to Ss. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, 143 Church Road, Portage, PA 15946.
