Obituary for Audrey J. Benton
Benton, Audrey J. (Nezneski) “Bub” - 67 of Portage, passed away on March 7, 2018 in Pittsburgh after a courageous battle with Leukemia since 2002. She was born on July 1, 1950 in Johnstown.
She was the daughter of Jay and Mary (Smindak) Nezneski. Audrey is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Edward Nezneski. She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years: Fran Benton of Portage and her daughters: Natalie wife of Michael Gallo of Portage, Laura wife of Michael Pollock of Pittsburgh, and Rebecca Benton and friend Brandon Ickes of Portage. Bub is also survived by her six grandchildren: Gina Beth, Dominic, Rhianna, Gavin, Joshua and Garrett.
She is the sister of June Marie Nezneski of Portage and John “Bucky” Nezneski and wife Beena of Lilly.
Audrey received her Bachelors Degree in Special Education from IUP and her Secondary Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education from St. Francis University. She is a retired Elementary School Teacher for the Portage Area School District and former Catechism Teacher for the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Portage. She was an active member and volunteer for Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, where she served on the Hospitality Committee. She loved music, especially Bon Jovi, Don Henley and Matt Otis. Most important to Audrey was her family. She loved her six grandchildren, spending time with them and attended all of their sporting events.
Family will receive friends from to 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant.
