Obituary for Barbara J. Greczek
On Sunday evening, July 4, 2021, our beloved wife and mom entered eternal rest. Lovingly known to many as “Babs," Barb was born July 25, 1943, in Beaverdale, the second of six daughters to Leo and Rebecca (Bowser) Bastian. Barb was a 1961 graduate of Beaverdale/Wilmore High School and was instrumental in planning many of their class reunions. Barb’s career spanned from Best Form, Bally, and Cambria Residential Services, but her favorite job was being a stay-at-home Mom to Carri during her childhood years. On April 27, 1974, Barb married the love of her life, Rich Greczek, in St. Bartholomew’s Roman Catholic Church in Wilmore. Barb and Rich were blessed with 47 years of marriage, living all of them in their beloved home on Hemlock Drive, where their door was always open and all were welcome. Barb and Rich are the proud and loving parents of their daughter Carri and husband Steve Platt, who they consider to be the son they never had. Along with her parents, Barb is joined in heaven by her sister Kathy Merrill, father-in-Law Alvin Greczek, mother-in-Law Josephine (Bentkowski) Greczek, brothers-in-law Ron Kehn, Paul Redfern, and Ronald Greczek, sister-in-law Irene (Boland) Greczek, and niece, Reyanah Shaw. Barb was the cherished sister of Pat Kehn, Wilmore; Karen “Teddie” (David) Shock, Richmond, KY; Vici Shaw, Salix; and Ginger Stephens, Wilmore. Devoted sister-in-law of Darrell Merrill, North Royalton, OH; James and Carole Greczek, Williamstown, NJ; and Joanne Redfern, Portage. Barb held a special place in her heart for her dear neighbors Ray, Mary, Marla (Nesbella) Sanders and Ryan Myher and family. Also cherishing Barb’s memory are her many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors. Barb, along with Rich, enjoyed the simple things in life: bus trips to her favorite casinos, long Sunday drives, her favorite nightly ritual of playing on her iPad, eating frozen yogurt, and watching The Price is Right. But above all else, Barb enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. Barb is a former member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portage and a current member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Portage. The Greczek family warmly welcomes all family, friends, and neighbors to Barb’s viewing from 2-4 and 6-8, Thursday, July 8, 2021, at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 532 Main Street, Portage. A funeral mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 509 Caldwell Avenue, Portage, PA, at 11 AM on Friday, July 9, 2021, Father Thomas Stabile, Celebrant. Burial will take place at St. Bartholomew’s Cemetery, Wilmore.
