Obituary for Bernard Brown
“Bernie” – 76 of Dunlo, passed away on September 23, 2023 in Altoona. He was born on March 14, 1947 in Johnstown. Bernie was the son of Hannah (Swegle) and David F. Brown, Sr. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law: Raymond Vontorcik and his sister-in-law: Elizabeth Ann (Bernat) Brown.
Bernie is survived by his girlfriend: Nannette Parkinson of Summerhill and her children: Brandi wife of Scott Penatzer of New Germany and Bryan Parkinson and his wife Angela of Salix and grandchildren: Paige and Bella Penatzer and Madelyn Parkinson. Bernie was the brother of Mary Pat Vontorcik and David Brown of Lloydell. He was the uncle of Allan Vontorcik, Virginia Vontorcik, Mary Beth wife of Kevin Heider and Michael Brown and wife April. Bernie was the great uncle of Kailyn, Andrew, Samantha, Trinity, Tristan and Teagan.
He is also survived by Janet Brown and his extended family and friends: Deb and Tom Semanchik, Kirstie and Chris Barto, Elijah, Everett, Sadie, Reece and Cohen Barto and Bill Earhart.
Bernie was a US Coast Guard Veteran. He was a retired employee of Lehman Machine Company in Portage. He was a member of the South Fork Rifle Club, the Dunlo and Beaverdale Sportsmans and an active member of the Beaverdale Legion and their Military Honor Guard. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends.
Family will receive friends from 2 – 7 PM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at St. John Catholic Church in Summerhill, Fr. Joseph Nale. Committal with graveside military rites will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Beaverdale.
