Obituary for Bernard "Chris" Phillips
Phillips, Bernard “Chris” – 81 of Lilly, passed away on March 4, 2019 in Altoona. He was born on November 26, 1937 in Lilly. He was the son of Andrew and Anna (Risko) Phillips. Chris is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings: Mary Novotny, Andrew “Fox” Phillips and Paul “Chink” Phillips.
Chris is survived by his loving wife: Helen (Boist) Phillips of Lilly and his children: Brian Phillips (Kristi) of Altoona; Christopher Phillips of Lilly and Kevin Phillips (Patty) of Missouri. Chris is also survived by his grandson: Donavon Phillips of Missouri; a sister: Agnes McCarty (Bill) of Lilly and a brother: Jim Phillips (Geri) of Portage and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a retired coal miner at Mine 33 with over 22 years of service. He was also formerly employed on the janitorial staff at Lilly Elementary School. He was a member of the Lilly American Legion Post #628, the Knights of Columbus Council 11084, the Lilly Slavish and Citizens Club and the UMWA. Chris was an avid gardener and fisherman. He enjoyed spending time with his family, his friends at the Lilly Legion and his faithful canine companion, Bella.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church in Lilly. Committal will be private to the family.
