Obituary for Carl F. "Bucky" George
George, Carl F. “Bucky” – 97 of Portage, passed away on October 22, 2019 at home. He was born on December 28, 1921 in Lilly. He was the son of Unruh and Della (Marshall) George.
Carl is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Ethel (Moyer) George, his brothers: Marshall and Nobel George and a sister: Lois Stiffler. He is survived by his children: William George and wife Linda of Cartersville, VA; Beverly George of Portage and Nancy Miller of Portage. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII and he was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star Recipient. Carl previously worked in the past at the former Cresson Sanitorium on the custodial staff. He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel where he worked in the car shop. Carl was a member of the Lilly American Legion Post #628, where he served in the past for over 35 years as their commander and he was a member of the Sankertown VFW Post #7377. He was lifetime member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church in Portage.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 PM on Friday, October 25th, 2019 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10AM on Saturday, October 26th, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage.
