Obituary for Cathy L. Sossong
Sossong, Catherine L. “Cathy” – 61 of Portage, passed away on November 3, 2021 at home. She was born on November 30, 1959 in Windber. Cathy was the daughter of Joseph, Sr. “Jake” and Catherine (Habas) Olszewski. She is preceded in death by her parents and these siblings: Joseph “Buddy” Olszewski, Sandy Olszewski and Kim Compardo.

She is also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law: Emil Branas, Phil Zdunczyk, John Thurston, Joe Compardo and her mother-in-law: Geraldine (Keslar) Sossong.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband: Michael Sossong their sons: Jason Sossong and wife Erin (Pisarski) of Portage and Chad Sossong and wife Kristy (Jones) of Mount Hope, and granddaughters: Eva, Josie and Tori and Bella. Cathy was the sister of Shirley Branas, Mary Zdunczyk, Donna Thurston, Elaine (Bodenschatz) Olszewski, Louise (Rick) Shope and Joan Oshaben (Robert).

She is also survived by her father-in-law: Ronald Sossong, Sr. and brothers-in-law: Ronald Sossong Jr. (Darlene), Robin “Moon” Sossong (Sue) and Jeffrey Sossong (Bronwyn) and sisters-in-law: Michele and Tiffany Sossong and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mike and Cathy celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary October 4th. They enjoyed backyard fires with Jay, Erin, Chad, friends and family, and coloring books and playing on the floor, as well as their family summer fun trip to Idlewild with Eva, Josie, and Tori. Cathy loved playing board games and spinning vinyl, watching her Steelers play with her beloved buddy Ty, the Sossong Christmas Eve gift exchange, and tree decorating with the Partridge Family Christmas playing on the stereo. Always the life of the party, she was co-pilot for the annual Mom and Sister Fall adventure to Atlantic City, and a hoot at birthday dinners and holiday gatherings at Mom's. Cathy last skipped the floors at Ebensburg Applebee's sharing her love of service to others. Best known for co-owning Sassy Sisters' Restaurant with her sister, Joan, for 24 years, she loved the time she spent sharing coffee and friendship with everyone that came through the door. Serving good food and conversation was her specialty, and it was always a good time with her sisters working by her side. Whether it was B.T. (Sassy code for "Break Time") with the morning crew, Friday Fish Fry madness, the Sunday breakfast buffet rush after church, prepping for the next catering, or in the office with Eva stapling anything and everything that could be stapled and would be stapled to the desk, she brought laughter and joy into everything she did. When asked who the Sassy one was, they would turn to each other, point, and laugh. Named after her mother, she truly modeled her namesake seeing the good in everyone always, sharing positive words of encouragement, and living life to the fullest. For Cathy, a good song and cold beer could fix anything, so get that Styx vinyl on the turn table, get on the dance floor, and play your best air guitar. "Come Sail Away."

At Cathy’s request there will be no viewing, visitation or service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Cathy’s name to Windber Hospice, 600 Somerset Avenue, Windber, PA 15963. Cathy’s Family would like to give a special thank you to all of her family members, friends and neighbors who gave their love, support and kindness to Cathy.
