Obituary for Shirley Decort

Decort, Charlotte M. “Shirley” (Crilley) – 87 of Ebensburg, formerly of Nyack, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2022. She was born on August 1, 1935 in Loretto, PA. She was the eldest daughter of Ferdinand and Thelma (Dibble) Crilley. Shirley is preceded in death and welcomed by her parents, her husband: Joseph Decort, her son: Joseph “Gus” Decort and her brothers: Melvin, Eugene, Raymond, Joseph Crilley and an infant sibling.

She is survived by her children: Sandra “Sandy” & Frank Buckley, Rodney & Vincenza Decort, Charleen & Joe Morales and Daughter-in-law, Denise Decort. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Emmanouil and Maria Zervakis, Regina & Pasquale Carbone, Ronald & Jennifer Rybnikar, Mikaela and Daniel Decort, Elizabeth and Joseph Decort, Kaitlyn Morales and 7 Great Grandchildren.

Shirley was the sister of Mary Ellen & David Eckenrode, James & Donna Crilley, Leonard & Barbara Crilley and Sally Blattenberger along with a great number of loving nieces and nephews.

Shirley grew up in Loretto on her family farm and moved to Nyack with her husband Joe & family in 1961. Having worked many jobs in her lifetime, one of her greatest accomplishments was retiring from the Spring Valley Water Company, where she was the first female CDL truck driver. Some of her greatest joys came from vacationing with her siblings and spending time with friends and family.

Shirley was well known for her sense of humor, fashionable outfits and delicious recipes. She was a skilled card, bingo and game of chance player and knew how to give people a run for their money. She was a strong life force to those around her and will be greatly missed.

Shirley's peaceful transition was eased thanks to the unwavering love, dedication & devoted care provided by her loving daughter Sandy (Frank). Those who knew Shirley will have many memories to hold dear to them as she left an impact on everyone she met.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 from 2 to 6 PM at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage.
