Obituary for Christopher J. McCarthy, Jr.
McCarthy, Christopher J., Jr. "CJ", "Mac"- 72 of Portage, passed away on April 7, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center. Born September 28, 1940 in Cassandra. The son of Christopher and Anna (Zidow) McCarthy. Preceded in death by parents, sister Patricia Adams, nephew Brian Mihalick, brother in law Charles Elchin and his beloved dog Candy. Survived by loving daughters: Sheri, wife of Mark "Bub" Nolan and Tammy, wife of George Wozniak, all of Portage. Also survived by grandchildren: Zachary and Katie Nolan, and Lexi, Kaelyn and Arianna Wozniak and wife Sharon (Stager) McCarthy, all of Portage and also canine companions: Vegas and Tank. Brother of Maryann Maderia (Tom) of Elyria, OH; Roseann Johnson (Tom) of Ford City; Mary Louise Elchin of Jamestown and Diane Mihalick (George) of Irwin; brother in law of Chuck Adams(Patricia) of Portage . Special care was given to Chris by sister-in-law Janet Myers, wife of Ed Myers. Chris was a boss in the coal mines for Bethlehem Steel Corporation. Chris was an avid sports fan, he loved gardening and animals, but most importantly he loved watching his granddaughters play for the Lady Mustangs Basketball Team. He was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Portage and he was a US Army Veteran from 1959-61. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday at the Wozniak residence, 605 Prospect Street in Portage. Per the family's request, please dress casual in jeans. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 11 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Walter Moll and Fr. Andrew Draper, Concelebrates. Committal is private to the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Chris's name to the Portage Girls Basketball Boosters and/or the Cambria County Human Society, C/O Tammy Wozniak, 605 Prospect Street, Portage, PA 15946
