Obituary for Donald A. Smith
Smith, Donald A., “Kia” – 66 of Portage. Passed away peacefully at home on July 4, 2017. He was born on July 6, 1950 in Johnstown. The son of Frances Smith. He is preceded in death by his son Donny and his daughter Jennifer Ann, his mother, and brother Bobby.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Robyn (Smith) wife of Daniel Huschak of Portage and his grandchildren, Kayla Ann Huschak and Brady Daniel Huschak both of Portage. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia wife of George Alexander of Portage and his brother John “Jack” Drinosky of Portage and his good friend Jeff from the Penn Ave in Cresson.
Kia was a member of the Jamestown Rod n Gun. He enjoyed spending quality time with his daughter Robyn and son in law Dan. When Fall came around, Kia had his bags packed ready for WV with the gang. He was the chief cook and bottle washer, or so he said. He enjoyed planting the garden and watching is grow. He was an avid Steelers and Penn State fan.
A special thank you to the caregivers and nurses with Windber Hospice, especially Marie, Helen, Miranda and Missy and to his beloved granddaughter Kayla Ann, who provided him with round the clock nursing care and love. Kia is now at peace and reunited with his son Donny and daughter Jennifer Ann whom he missed dearly.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage where a Vigil Service will be held 7:30 PM Friday evening. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday at St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Wilmore, Fr. Andrew Draper. On line condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com.
