Obituary for Donald C. Kick, Sr.
KICK - Donald Charles Sr., 67, Portage, passed away Oct. 6, 2015, at home. Born Sept. 21, 1948, in Johnstown, son of Clement "Hook" and Reba (Crum) Kick. Preceded in death by parents and brothers, Clement, Jr., Robert "Bob" and John "Jack" Kick. Survived by wife, Linda (Abbotts) Kick; sons, Donald C. "Donnie" Kick Jr., Portage; and James A. "Jimmy" and wife Dawn (Lego), Cresson; grandchildren, Kira and Patience Kick, Cresson; stepchildren, Tara Abbotts and Art, Portage; and Paul Younkin, and wife, Elizabeth (Illig), Colver; five stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild; also mother-in-law, Agnes Abbotts, Portage. Brother of Patricica "Pat" Minor, Portage; Thomas "Lee" Kick, and wife, Shirley, and Betty Bieniewicz, both of Warren, Mich.; and Dora, wife of Paul Smith, Portage. Also survived by special nephew, Charlie Minor, Portage; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Lillian Abbotts; Patricia, wife of Clarence Shultz; Charles Abbotts, and wife, Candi; and Sandy, wife of Larry "Clancey" Oswalt, all of Portage; and Thomas Abbotts, and wife, Becky, Boswell. Don was a Vietnam veteran stationed with the Co. A 70th Engineers Battalion at Ban Me Therot, South Vietnam. He completed eight weeks advanced training as a combat engineer at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Don received instructions in combat squad tactics, infantry weapons and engineer reconnaissance. He also was trained in the techniques of road and bridge building, camouflage and demolition. Don served from 1967 to 1969. He was a former employee of Bethlehem Steel and also worked in construction. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Father Andrew Draper, celebrant. Committal, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Johnstown.
