Obituary for Edward G. Rocker, Sr.
ROCKER - Edward G. Sr., 81, Portage, passed away Feb. 12, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. Born Dec. 29, 1930, in Benscreek, Portage Township, son of Michael Sr. and Mary (Lutz) Rocker. Preceded in death by parents and siblings, William Rocker, Mary Murray, John Rocker and Michael Rocker Jr., and great granddaughter Hope Gracie Barno. Survived by loving wife of 59 years, the former Patricia A. Cronauer, whom he married Dec. 27, 1952; children, Anne, wife of Kevin Sullivan, Woodbridge, Va.; Janet, wife of Joe Huber, Summerhill; Dottie, wife of Paul Molnar; and Edward Jr., and wife, Kim (Whitcomb), all of Portage; Teresa, wife of Keith Hagerich, Summersville, W.Va.; Marcia, wife of David Gardy, Lanexa, Va.; David, and wife, Michelle (Paikin), Charlottesville, Va.; and James, and wife, Patricia (Fyfe), Edgewater, Md.; grandchildren, Michael Barno, and wife, Stacy; Christopher Barno, and wife, Sharon; Sean and Erin Sullivan; Eric Croyle, and wife, Brittany; Rose Huber; Janine, wife of Randy Sease; Jessica, wife of William Earnest; Scott Molnar, and wife, Nicole; Beth Molnar; Sara, wife of Dan Erzal; Molly, wife of Brad Harrington; Mary and Rebecca Rocker; Jenna and Keith Hagerich; Catherine Gardy; and Samantha, Joshua, Amanda and Steven Rocker; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Barno; Aurora, Ava and Aniston Croyle; Cody and Lindsey Sease; Nathan, Tyler and Jonathan Earnest; and Trinity and Xavier Molnar. Brother of Janet "Irene," wife of Robert Spaid, Portage. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was a 1949 Portage Area Joint High School graduate, where he was a member of the boxing club and No. 52 on the football team. Former employee of Bethlehem Steel, where he retired with 33 years of service. A dedicated parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served as president of the former Holy Name Society and a former Eucharistic minister, lector, choir member, bingo caller and school football coach. He was a Korean War Army veteran, a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and was a member of the American Legion Post 430 and the Home Dart League. Most of all, Edward will be remembered for being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He always said "there is nothing like family and there is no place like home." Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Father Walter Moll, officiating. Committal, St. Patrick Cemetery, Gallitzin. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Edward's name to Conemaugh Regional Hospice, 315 Locust St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901.
