Obituary for Eleanor M. Fisher
Fisher, Eleanor M. – 94 of Portage, passed away on April 11, 2018 in Johnstown. She was born on October 26, 1923 in Roanoke, VA. She was the daughter of Earl and Edith (Broyles) Lantzy. Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cyril Fisher, her daughter Vicki Dovala, her son-in-law Leo Gressick, and her siblings: Joanne East and Joseph Lantzy.
She is survived by her children: Don Fisher and wife Phyllis of Bowling Green, KY; Sally wife of Mike McKasson of Tucson, AZ; Paul Fisher and wife Karen, Karen Gressick and Janice wife of Ray Bowman, all of Portage. Eleanor is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 10 Great Grandchildren and her siblings: Earl Lantzy Jr. and wife Mary of Hillsdale, PA; Thomas Lantzy of Fenton, MI; Robert Lantzy and wife Lois of Horseheads, NY and Dorothy Jean wife of Thomas Smith of Emeigh, PA.
Eleanor was a former Library Aide at the Portage Public Library and a teacher’s aide at Portage School District. She was a former volunteer with over 25 years of service with Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center at the Resource Library. She was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage and of the Portage Area Senior Center. She enjoyed playing Pinochle in a card group with her friends. Eleanor loved to travel and take road trips in the car. Most importantly Eleanor was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was very proud of them all.
Family will receive friends from 12 to 4 PM and 6 to 9 PM on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday April 16, 2018 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Eleanor’s name to the family for a charity of their choice.
