Obituary for Gary W. Edwards
Edwards, Gary W. – 78 of Beaverdale, passed away on October 2, 2020 at Windber Hospice. He was born on April 24, 1942 in Beaverdale. Gary was the son of Ernest and Alice (Libertine) Edwards. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wives: Wilma (Risbon) Turgeon and Vera (O’Neil) Snedden – Edwards and his daughter: Michelle Edwards. Gary is survived by his children: Nannette Parkinson and companion Bernie Brown of Summerhill; Deb wife of Tom Semanchik of Portage and Gary Edwards and wife Chris (Paulson) of Beaverdale. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Brandi wife of Scott Penatzar of New Germany; Bryan Parkinson and wife Angela of Salix; Kirstie wife of Chris Barto of Portage; Gary Edwards and wife Tiffany of Sidman; Trista wife of Dustin Wirick of Sidman; Alexis and Fiance’ David Saylor of Tipton; Mikael Edwards of Michigan; Great Grandchildren: Paige, Bella, Madelyn, Elijah, Everett, Sadie and Alison; Stepchildren: David Snedden and companion Marla of MD; Rick Snedden of Somerset; Ron Snedden and wife Stephanie of Washington, PA and Doug Snedden and wife Barb of Pittsburgh and numerous Step Grandchildren and Step Great Grandchildren and a special friend: Don Patterson of Jamestown. Gary is the brother of Betty Popovich Wickliffe, OH and William Edwards of Xenia, OH. Gary was a lifetime member of the Beaverdale Sportmans Camp. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and teaching his friends and family how to shoot guns. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Nascar and Penn State. Gary was a former Beaverdale Girls Softball and Little League Coach. He loved listening to his Sunday Polkas. Gary was formerly employed as a welder for Bethlehem Mine #33 and he was an aide at the Greater Johnstown Vo Tech Welding Program, where he was able to work along side his son. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Sunday, October 4, 2020 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 5, 2020 at 11 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Summerhill, Fr. Leon Hont, Celebrant. Committal will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Beaverdale. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Windber Hospice in Gary’s Name.
