Obituary for Georgianna L. Walters
WALTERS - Georgianna L. "Georgie," 71, Benscreek, passed away June 17, 2014, in Johnstown. Born April 8, 1943, in Portage, at home. She was the eldest daughter of Mae (Bland) and George Haschak. She married John E. Walters on Sept. 30, 1967, at St. Agnes Church in Cassandra. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage together. Member of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Portage. Preceded in death by her dear parents. Survived by loving husband, John E.; beloved son, Christopher J., and wife, Anne (Solarczyk); loving sister, Patricia Haschak; and precious grandchildren, Christopher J. Jr., Katlyn A. and Conor J. Walters. Also survived by godchildren, Leah Rae Tarachko, John Sckowski and Edward Stevens; and her special lifelong friends, Margaret "Peg" Yurchik, Stella Bailey, Earl "Guba" Latherow and Roger Weyandt. The highlight of Georgie's life were her grandchildren who she was most proud of. She enjoyed spending time in the company of good friends and family reminiscing about the good ole days and memories not yet made together. She was always up for a good laugh and to raise the spirits of those who confided in her and leaned on her for support and strength. Her personality instantly drew others toward her. She will be most missed during Christmas for it was the most wonderful time of the year to her. Even as her grandchildren grew older the anticipation of seeing their faces after they opened their Christmas presents from Grandma and Pappy meant the world to her. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Mountain Avenue, Portage. Committal to follow in SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Portage. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Georgie's name to Angel Christmas for children. Online condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com.
