Obituary for Helen M. Brewer
Brewer, Helen M. “Tootie” – 97 of Amston, Connecticut, formerly of Johnstown and Portage, passed away on February 15, 2019 in Connecticut. She was born on March 24, 1921 in Portage. Helen was the daughter of Thomas and Clara (Klein) Madigan. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: James Brewer and her siblings: Gerald Madigan, Mary VonLunen and Mildred Blair.
She is survived by her loving daughter: Diane wife of Richard Randall of Amston, CT; her grandchildren: Megan wife of Alex Thieme of Upton, MA and Danielle wife of Haskell Gray of Marlborough, CT and great grandchildren: Aiden, Sam, Lily and Ava Thieme, and Emerson (Emmie) Gray. Helen is also survived by her sister: Velma “Mim” Madigan of Portage and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a retired employee of the former Portage National Bank with over 38 years of service. Helen’s strong faith and love of family were the pillars of her life. She was a devout catholic and a former member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Portage, PA. where she was a member of the church choir, and a later member of St. Clements Catholic Church, Johnstown, PA. where she sang in the funeral choir. She was also a former volunteer at Conemaugh Memorial Hospital with over 20 years of services. Helen was a dedicated mother and loving Nana. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a spitfire with a cheeky sense of humor and a generous heart. Her beauty was both inside and out. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 PM on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Friday, February 22, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, celebrant. Committal will be held at Grandview Cemetery in Johnstown.
