Obituary for Ida Grace Keslar
Keslar, Ida Grace - 91 of Latrobe, formerly of Portage. Passed away August 18, 2015 in Erie. Born November 15, 1923 in Portage. The daughter of Thomas and Frances "Fanny" (Bowser) Ruffing. ��Preceded in death by parents, husband Vance S. Keslar, Sr., to whom she was married for 57 years; son Vance S. Keslar, Jr. ; sisters Nora O'Neill and Alice Baith; and brothers: Charles, James, Samuel and William Ruffing. Also preceded in death by foster son Robert W. Keslar. Survived by daughter: Vanessa (Keslar) Roddy Baran, wife of Dave Baran, of Latrobe; daughter-in-law Sandra Keslar of Mineral Point; Grandchildren Vance Keslar and wife Cinnamon of Cypress, TX; Kerri Keslar Marano and husband Steve of Johnstown; Liam Roddy of Latrobe; and Gavin Roddy and wife Kata of Tucson, AZ. Also survived by great grandchildren Melissa Sal y Rosas, Sofia Marano, Keira Roddy, and Finnegan McDade; and by foster daughters Marcie Keslar Isom and husband Jack of Huntsville, AL; Bonnie Keslar Weyandt of Ogletown; and Gerry Keslar Sossong and husband Ron of Portage, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews. ��Grace was a 1941 graduate of Portage Township High School and a 1946 graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. During WWII she was a "Rosie the Riveter," helping the war effort by building airplanes in Detroit. She was formerly employed as a Home Economics teacher for the Portage Township High School and in the Portage Area School District from 1946 until her retirement in 1977. Family was important to Grace. She and her husband Vance helped to raise his orphaned younger siblings. She enjoyed cooking and baking but, most importantly, spending her time with her family. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., of Portage and on Monday, 1 hr prior to time of service from 10 to 11 AM at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 1325 Mission Road, Latrobe, PA 15650 Pastor William Schaefer officiating. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contribution be made in Grace's memory to the Salvation Army Project Bundle Up. On-line condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com
