Obituary for James L. Townsend, II
Townsend, James L. II of Portage and formerly of South Fork, age 69, died on May 22, 2023 from pancreatic cancer. Preceded in death by his parents James and Anna. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Lynn (Boast). Best dad of Jesse (Amy) and Scott (Stacy). Also survived by his grandchildren Adam, Alexis, Alyssa, and Robbie; sisters Denise Prodrasky, Sharon Nagy, Debbie (Rick “Brother”) Ritchey, Corda Kostyk (Ken Kinsey); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts.
He was a graduate of Forest Hills, retired corrections officer and former coal miner and steel mill worker. He loved fishing, spending time at camp, and the Steelers. He was a funny guy who had us laughing until the very end.
There will be food and gathering of friends and family from 3 - 7 on Friday, May 26, 2023 at Parkway’s Crimson Room at the corner of Rt 53 & 164 in Portage. At 5 PM there will be words of remembrance and meditation. All are welcome and encouraged to come celebrate Jim’s life.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made in Jim’s name to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, earmarked for Pancreatic Cancer Research. The Townsend Family is being served by the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home Inc. in Portage.
