Obituary for Jean Mignogna
Jean Mignogna, formerly Jean Martinelli, born May 26, 1925 in Portage, PA. Surrounded by her family, died July 26, 2013 at Rebekah Manor in Portage, PA of a prolonged illness. Proceeded in death by loving husband, Anthony, parents Joseph and Ottorina Martinelli, sister Rena Haidet, and in-laws: Dale Howieson, Wayne Haidet, John and Florence Glista, Gloria Delimata and Annie Mignogna. Survived by children: Noreen, wife of Dan Tremel of Portage; Mary Lynn Novelli of Dallas, TX; Joseph Mignogna and wife Theresa (Tranquillo) of Houston, TX; Anthony of Cresson; Lisa wife of M. Joseph Mink of Austin, TX and granddaughter Toni Lynn, whom she helped to raise. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, sister of Rosella Howieson and Jeno Martinelli and wife Rosemarie and in-laws: Eugene Mignogna, Albert Mignogna and wife Clara and Pete Delimata and numerous nieces and nephews and special caregivers from Rebekah Manor, Southern Care Hospice and Mary Bertram. A graduate of Portage Area High School, Jean was a homemaker and then worked and retired from the Portage National Bank after 23 years of service. She was a committed member of St. Joseph Catholic Church participating as Eucharistic Minister, Lector, choir and folk choir and past president of the St. Joseph Altar Society; and community service with the Auxiliary to Portage Volunteer Fire Company, Italian Heritage Society, Ancient Order of Hiberians, and past treasurer of the Portage Library. Jean and Tony were honored with the Ubi Caritas Award, a lifetime service recognition from their home parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church. Jean's greatest joys were cooking for her family, doing laundry and going to daily mass. Recognition should also be acknowledged from her five children as "Best Mother Ever". Family will receive friends at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home of Portage: 6 to 8 PM on Sunday and from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Monday with vigil. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, at 10 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Walter Moll, Celebrant and Deacon Joe Mignogna. Committal will be held at St. Bartholomew Church Cemetery in Wilmore. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Jean's name to the Portage Library or the St. Joseph People Helping People.
