Obituary for Joan M. Plishka
(Dzurenko) – 81 of New Germany, passed away on September 7, 2021 in Roaring Spring. She was born on March 20, 1940 in Johnstown. Joan was the daughter of Michael and Theresa (Hlavaty) Dzurenko. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: John Dzurenko , Mary Yingling, Ann Peters, Veronica Kick, Rita Coleman, Michael Dzurenko and Margaret Byler. Joan is survived by her loving husband: Charles Plishka whom she married at St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Beaverdale on August 5, 1961 and she is survived by their children: Therese Joan wife of Ron Hollen, of Johnstown, Annette Marie Plishka of Pittsburgh, Charles Martin Plishka of Baton Rouge, LA; and Stephen Nicholas Plishka of Reston, VA. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Alex Rohal (Danielle) of Pittsburgh, Xenia Rush of KY, Isabella of Pittsburgh, Jeremy Rush of Mich, Luisa (David) Moore of Mich and Great Grandchildren: Kyla, Nolan and Nora Moore all of Mich and numerous nieces and nephews. She is the sister of Theresa Shandor of Utica, Michigan and Frank Dzurenko of Roaming Shores, Ohio. Joan was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Beaverdale. She enjoyed crocheting and she was retired as a self-employed professional interior designer in drapery. Most important to Joan was spending time with her family. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Friday, September 10, 2021 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc in Portage. Divine Liturgy will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at SS. Peter & Paul Byzantine Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. James Spontak and Deacon Daniel Perich. Interment in St Mary’s Byzantine Catholic Church Cemetery in Beaverdale. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
