Obituary for John C. Nicholson, Sr.
Nicholson, John C. Sr. – 67 of Lilly, passed away on March 8, 2024 in Portage. He was born on June 8, 1956 in Johnstown, PA. John was the son of Joseph J. and Genevieve N. (Fox) Nicholson. He is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Hope Marie Nicholson.
John is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia M. (Kosto) Nicholson of Lilly and their children: Michael Kosto of Lilly, Melissa Skrout of Wilmore, Genevieve Kindling of Lilly and John Nicholson and fiance’ Daniele Weigle of Portage. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Isabella Crum, Gabe, Cameron and Trevor and his family friends, Jennie Wolfe, Tim Franey, George Nagle and Ben Selapack.
John was the brother of James Nicholson of Shomaker, Joseph Nicholson and his wife Ingrid of Barryview, NY, Patrick Nicholson of Jamestown and Michael Nicholson of Portage.
He was a U.S. Navy Vietnam War Veteran. He was an active member of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Wilmore, where he and his wife enjoyed helping the St. Anne Society. He was an avid sportsman. He and his wife Cindy enjoyed traveling and spending time together with their family.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 14th, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Bartholomew Church in Wilmore. Committal in St. Bartholomew Church Cemetery. Graveside Military Rites by the Portage Ritual Team.
