Obituary for Joseph S. Handel
Joseph S. Handel 74 of Salix, formerly of Portage, passed away December 16, 2023, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. He was born on December 5, 1949 in Johnstown. Joseph is preceded in death by parents, Joseph R. and Dorothy A. (Sheridan) Handel; and a sister Marianne F. Bodenschatz (Handel) wife of James J. Bodenschatz.
He is survived by a niece, Molly J., wife of W. Matthew Skilton, Philadelphia; and a nephew, James "Jay," married to Emily (Guigelaar), Grand Rapids, Michigan; a cherished great nephew, Emerson Bodenschatz; and a great niece, Charlotte Bodenschatz and numerous cousins. Joe was a joyful soul. He loved Italian food, spending time with his friends and family and all types of music. A day did not pass when he didn’t talk about his record collection of 45’s.
Friends and family will be received from 9 AM until time of 11 AM Service on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at Matthew R Decort Funeral Home, 532 Main Street, Portage, PA 15946. Committal will be held in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery in Cresson.
