Obituary for Karolyn J. Conrad
Karolyn J. (Yelovich) Conrad, 75, of Portage, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Born October 1, 1943, in Windber, PA, daughter of Peter Yelovich (Central City, PA) and the late Ann (Penko) Yelovich. Preceded in death by brother-in-law, James Fisher; sister-in-law, Patricia (Hammer) Yelovich; and nephew James Yelovich, Jr.
Survived by loving husband, Ralph J. Conrad, Jr., of 50 years; adoring children Dr. Natalie Conrad Barnyak (Portage, PA) married to James Barnyak and Dr. Tyler Conrad (Johnstown, PA) married to Jennifer (Ferchalk); and cherished grandchildren, Brynn Conrad, Vanessa Barnyak, and Tyson Conrad, whom she was affectionately known as Nonni.
Sister of James Yelovich, Sr. married to Patricia Pfeilsticker (Stoystown, PA); Peter A. Yelovich married to Berniece (Palya) (Central City, PA); Rebecca married to Joseph Sanzo (Cairnbrook, PA); and Kate Yelovich (Central City, PA); sister-in-law of George and Donna (Conrad) Martyak (Johnstown, PA); JoAnn (Conrad) Fisher (Johnstown, PA); Stanley and Patricia (Conrad) Rok (Johnstown, PA); Paul and Annette (Loya) Conrad (Plano, TX); and Barbara Conrad (Forney, TX); Also survived by numerous, beloved nieces and nephews.
Karolyn was a loving and affectionate wife, mother, Nonni, family member, and friend who always gave so generously and unselfishly of herself. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Karolyn touched so many lives with her kind, sweet, giving nature, humor, concern for others, and through her teaching. Karolyn taught high school for 30 years, with 25 of those years at Windber Area High School, Windber, PA. She enjoyed sharing her business skills and technology expertise with her students. Karolyn had a special way of getting to know others well through her friendly ways and talking to them. Her courageous spirit and profound strength are a true inspiration and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Holy Family Church, 509 Caldwell Avenue, Portage, PA. All family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Karolyn’s memory may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
