Obituary for Laura May Smiach
Smiach, Laura May – 59 of Portage, passed away surrounded by family on August 23, 2016. She was born on July 22, 1957 in Altoona. She was the daughter of Eugene and Dorothy (McIntosh) Moyer. Her deceased family members are her father, and husband George Smiach. Laura is survived by her loving daughters: Katrina (Moyer) wife of David Johnston of Dubois and Kari Ann Smiach and fiancée Harry Plummer of Portage and her grandchildren: Ashlee Moyer and Tristan Miller both of Portage and Abigael Johnston of Dubois. She is also survived by her mother Dorothy of Portage and 7 siblings. Laura loved to cook and craft. Most importantly she loved helping people she met along the way in life. Laura chose to return to a facility she felt needed some extra special attention. She said it was the love and laughter that allowed her to spend some extra time here on Earth. Laura wanted to share that love and laughter with as many people as possible and she did. Family will receive friends from 1 to 3 PM and 5 to 7 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc of Portage where a funeral service will be held that evening at 7 PM. Committal will be private to the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorial contributions be made in Lauras name to "pay it forward" and assist with transportation and treatment costs associated with a cancer diagnosis .
