Obituary for Margery A. Mayers
MAYERS – Margery (Dudley), 97, died peacefully November 25, 2020. Born October 1, 1923, daughter of John & Madeline (Swartz) Dudley. Preceded in death by beloved husband, John (Jack) B. Mayers; sister, Geraldine Hodgson, Phoenix, AZ, and son, Michael (Annette) Mayers. Survived by brother, James (Marlene) Dudley, Burlington, VT; and daughter-in-law, Annette (Kutyba) Mayers. Also survived by children, Connie (Timothy) Illig, Ebensburg; Jeff (Patricia), Middleton, WI and Susan. Margery was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Margery graduated from Portage Area High School and Cambria-Rowe Business College and owned and operated Mayers Insurance Agency in Portage with her husband Jack for over 35 years until retiring together in 1985. She was a long-standing member of Summit Country Club and enjoyed golf well into her 80s along with her close friend & golf buddy, Marge Stager. She had a love of baseball, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, but was passionate & enthusiastic about all sports. Margery lived a long, healthy and active life and never lost her sense of humor. Her positive attitude was an inspiration to her family and others who knew her. The family has deep heartfelt gratitude to the Amber Hills staff & Windber Hospice for their compassion, devotion and never-ending support. Every staff member was very dear to her -- especially Brooke and her roommate, Mary Jean O’Donnell, who was like a sister to her. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held at a future date. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are being cared for by Mathew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc, Portage. Donations can be made in Margery’s memory to Amber Hills Assisted Living at Cambria Care Center, Therapeutic Gardening Project, 429 Manor Drive, Ebensburg, PA 15931.
