Obituary for Mary Ellen Lutz
Lutz, Mary Ellen – 85 of Portage, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2020 at home with her husband at her side. She was born May 24, 1934 in Benscreek, Portage Township. She is the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Ambrisko) Kuntz. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings: Anna, Edward, Eleanor, Helen and Francis.
Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Michael “Mick” Lutz and her children: Paul Lutz and wife Annette (Koenigsberg) of Portage, Nancy wife of Dave Peffer of Greensburg, Suzanne wife of Frank Gall of Greensburg and Michael Lutz and wife Jill (Dubovecky) of Harrisburg, NC. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her brother Joseph Kuntz and wife Justine of Boca Raton, FL.
Mary Ellen worked side-by-side with the love of her life, her husband Mick, to start several local businesses including Lutz Construction Company, Lutz Home Center and Lutz Realty Company. She was a past officer of the Portage Women’s Club and volunteered at the Portage Station Museum. She was known by her family as the “baby whisperer”. Mary Ellen enjoyed quilting, shopping with her girls, puzzles and playing pinochle with her longtime friends. She loved spending time with her family, especially beach vacations, trips to Florida and Penn State football games.
Family will receive friends on Monday, February 17th, 2020 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant. Entombment in Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Portage.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary Ellen’s name to the ALS Association, 1300 Wilson Boulevard, Suite 600, Arlington VA 22209 in honor of her granddaughter Melissa Cordek.
