Obituary for Paul R. Erzal, Sr.
Erzal, Paul R., Sr. "Ertz" - 84 of Lilly, passed away on January 8, 2013 at Memorial Medical Center, with his family by his side. Born February 9, 1928 in Portage. The son of Rudolph and Dorothy (Burke) Erzal. Preceded in death by parents, sisters: Ruth Urich and Mary Catherine Erzal and brothers: William and Robert Erzal. Survived by loving wife of 66 years, Doris (Godish) Erzal. Children: Paul R. Erzal, Jr. and wife Jeanne (Dupirack) of Portage; Sharon A. (Erzal) and husband Rudy "Skip" Galayda of Johnstown; and Patrick E. Erzal and wife Cindy (Thibedeaux) of Lilly, Grandchildren: Paul Erzal III, Matthew Erzal, Daniel Erzal, Jennifer (Erzal) Ream, Kim Galayda, and Nathan and Ian Erzal, Great Grandchildren: Hope Galayda, Sebastian Kissell and Whitney Ream; and Great Great Grandson: Hayden Galayda. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Brother of Sr. Marie Chabanel (Shirley), Rose Marie wife of Michael Kuchera and Jean wife of Richard Smalley. Ertz was a gentle man who lived life with a great joy and love for his family. He was a former member of the Portage Bulldogs Semi-Pro Team and the Jamestown Rod and Gun Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and he enjoyed all sports. He and his family hold dearly many fond memories of his camp at Poe Valley. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. of Portage, where a vigil service will be held that afternoon. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Church in Lilly, Monsignor John R. Sasway, Celebrant. Committal in St. Brigid Cemetery in Lilly.
