Obituary for Paul V. Gressick, Sr.
Gressick, Paul V., Sr. – 90 of Portage, passed away on June 13, 2018 at home. He was born on November 11, 1927 in Munster. He was the son of Frank and Mary (Ritchick) Gressick. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ethel M. “Tillie” (Freidhof) Gressick, sons: John M. Gressick and Leo J. Gressick, Sr., grandson: Steven P. Gressick, and these siblings: Donna Gressick, Mildred Wirostek, Marian Porter, Rosella Ugljesa, Clara Freese, Eleanor Yusko, Esther Ward, Henrietta Clemens, Bernadette Green, Phyllis Fill, Carl Gressick and Victor Gressick.
Paul is survived by his children: Paul V. Gressick, Jr. and wife Bonnie (Schrift), Mary Jane Gressick (Len), Carol wife of Melvin Lee, Jr. and Alice wife of Joe Lee all of Portage and daughter-in-laws: Julia Gressick and Karen Gressick, both of Portage, 25 Grandchildren, 40 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild on the way. Paul is the brother of Dennis Gressick of Munster and Christine Ott of Mosier, OR. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Paul was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and a retired employee of C.J. Merlo of Mineral Point. He was a lifetime farmer, known especially for his sweet corn, his gift of gab and he passed his hard work ethics down to generations of his family. Most importantly he loved his family and was the proudest of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and he loved to see them all smile.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 8 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church of Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant. Committal will be held in St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Wilmore.
