Obituary for Philip C. Stager II
Stager, Philip C. II – 86 of Portage, passed away on November 12, 2019 at home. He was born on July 27, 1933 in Portage. He was the son of Chester Sr. and Anna (Novotny) Stager. Phil is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: France’ M. (Mastaler) Stager and his siblings: Chester Stager Jr., Betty Rusnak, Leona Scott and Joanne Smith. Phil is survived by his loving children: Philip “Michael” Stager III and his wife Sue (Myers) of Cassandra, Antony Stager of Tioga, PA and Suzanne Nagy of Portage. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren: Stephanie Schrift, Amanda wife of Jon Helsel, all of Portage and Mary and Seth Stager both of Tioga, PA, and his great grandsons: John and Mason Helsel both of Portage. Phil is the brother of Gary Stager and his wife Karen (Trusick) of Portage. He is the brother-in-law of Cindy George, Margo wife of Les Kiel and Patricia Tutsock, all of Portage.
Phil served his Country proudly in the United States Army. He was a Veteran of the Korean War. Phil and his brothers carried on the legacy of Stager’s Store, which was founded by their father, Chester Stager, Sr. The Store and the Stager Family continue to serve Portage and the surrounding communities. Phil enjoyed his family, friends, hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time at camp.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 19th, 2019 at 6PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 509 Caldwell Avenue in Portage. Committal will be private to the family. In lieu of flowers Memorial Contributions may be made to Local Portage Organizations. The Stager Family is being served by the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage.
