McGivney, Philip T. – 83 of Lilly, passed away on December 8, 2024 at home with his daughter by his side and Brian Lundberg. Born March 6, 1941 in Brooklyn, NY, son of Margaret (Scanlon) and Chester McGivney. Preceded in death by parents; wife, Carol R. (Kunrod) McGivney; daughters, Kelly Ann, Peggy Ann; nephew, Lawerence Bolger; aunt, Ruth Scanlon and uncle Thomas Scanlon. Survived by his daughter, Christine “Chrissy” McGivney-Dupirack; son, Philip J. McGivney (wife Melissa), and grandson Joseph S. McGivney, all of Pittsburgh.
Phil was a beloved father, teacher, coach and friend that leaves behind a legacy of leadership, dedication, and unwavering passion of teaching life lessons to his children, students, and players. He spent 32 years in the classroom at Penn Cambria. In addition to coaching, Phil was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was more than a coach; he was a source of inspiration who believed in the potential of every player and took immense pride watching them grow on and off the playing fields. Phil had a terrific personality that remained with him throughout his entire life. He met everyone with a smile or handshake and was always up for conversation. It didn’t matter where he went, he always knew someone and that is what made him so special. He took the time to listen and made you feel like you were the most important person in his life. Phil was devoted to his family, especially his daughter Chrissy.
Phil was fortunate to be cared for in his home that he took pride in and absolutely loved! His caregivers expressed how easy he was to care for and how much he enjoyed life. Although he may no longer be with us, his influence will continue to echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know and love him. He will always be our guiding light.
