Obituary for R. Don Troxel
Troxel, R. Don – 86 of Portage passed away on May 18, 2017 in Portage, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 24, 1930 in Portage. He was the son of Robert R. and Agnes H. (Hopfer) Troxel. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Nancy C. (Wilkinson) Troxel, and his brother in law John Zubeck.
He is survived by his children: Terri and John Koenigsberg, Don and Marsha Troxel, and Tom and Alberta “Bert” Troxel, all of Portage. Don is also survived by his grandchildren: Robert and Mandy Koenigsberg, Karen and Damien Cummings, Jennifer and Eric Benko, Jason and Misty Troxel, Tyler and Karla Troxel, Grace, Deanna, Anne, and Robert Troxel and his great grandchildren: Kaylee and Ari Benko, Leah and Russell Cummings, and Kaelyn and Gavin Troxel; his brother Robert Troxel and his in-laws Gretchen and Bob Baudoux, Richard and Joanne Wilkinson, Ozzie and Gina Wilkinson, Peggy Zubeck, and numerous nieces and nephews, and the Costlow cousins. Don was also blessed to have special friends Lin Finnegan, and Doc and Janet Pandya in his life.
Don was a former truck driver and was employed and retired from Bethlehem Steel. He loved boating, camping, and waterskiing, especially with his wife Nancy at Kerr Lake, NC. He was an accomplished woodworker, photographer, and jack-o-f all-trades. He loved cars, computers, old country music, and local history, and he always told the best stories.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. of Portage. Rosary will be at 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 509 Caldwell Avenue in Portage. Committal will be held in St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Wilmore.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the handicap ramp fund at Holy Family Church, 509 Caldwell Avenue, Portage PA 15946.
