Obituary for Raymond G. Bowman, Jr.
Bowman, Raymond G. Jr. – 56 of Portage, passed away August 23, 2018 at home. He was born on July 24 1962 in Altoona. Ray was the son of Raymond G., Sr. and Naomi (George) Bowman. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother: Marie “Betsy” (DeMatteis) Bowman, his sister: Gayle Shandor, mother and father-in-law: Cyril and Eleanor Fisher, sister-in-law: Vicki Dovala, brothers-in-law: Leo Gressick and Bernie George and his faithful canine companion: Casey.
Ray is survived by his loving wife Janice (Fisher) Bowman of Portage, his sister: Judy George of Lilly and his in-laws: Don and Phyllis Fisher of Bowling Green, KY; Sally wife of Mike McKasson of Tucson, AZ; Paul Fisher and wife Karen of Portage; Karen Gressick and companion Kevin Smith of Portage and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was formerly employed by the Borough of Portage as the Public Works Director. He enjoyed spending time in his garage, using his backhoe, gardening and painting. He was self taught and loved using his computer. One of his favorite foods was peanut butter. Ray could be heard saying “Peanut butter on my peanut butter."
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. of Portage. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10 AM, Pastor Steve Moore, officiant. Committal will be held in Lillydale Cemetery in Lilly.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Rays name to the Cambria County Humane Society, 743 Galleria Drive, Johnstown, PA 15904. On-line condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com
