Obituary for Richard L. Fisher
Fisher, Richard L. - 69 of Portage, passed away on April 6, 2018 in Portage after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s and Dementia since 2001. He was born on March 11, 1949 in Johnstown. He was the son of Edward and Mary (Williams) Fisher. Rich is preceded in death by his parents, his son: Travis Fisher and his mother-in-law: Edith Brunnet.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years: Donna (Brunnet) Fisher, whom he married on June 26, 1971. He is also survived by his daughters: Tara wife of Scott Amann and Amanda wife of Chris Kostan, all of Pittsburgh; and his grandchildren: Katie McCarty, and Brock and Chase Amann, his brother: Gary Fisher of Beaverdale and his father-in-law: Don Brunnet of Portage.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Rich was a kind soul, a positive person, and he always had a kind word for everyone that he met. He loved to laugh and joke which was followed by an unforgettable smile. He enjoyed sports, especially baseball, softball, golfing and hunting. He was a former member of the Mainline Softball League as a Pitcher with at 1985 No Hitter Game. Rich was formerly employed by U.S. Steel and he retired with over 18 years of service as custodial and maintenance staff at the Portage Area School District. He and Donna enjoyed travel when they could, especially their trips to Gettysburg and the Singing on the Beach Gospel events at Myrtle. He was an active member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Martindale where he enjoyed singing.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Monday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home Inc. of Portage and from 10 AM until time of 11 AM service on Tuesday at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Martindale, Pastor Timothy Dietrich. Committal will be private to the family.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family for a charity of their choice.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Maple Winds Nursing Care Center and 365 Hospice for the love and care that they showed to Rich and also to Pastor Timothy Dietrich for his love, guidance, support and friendship to Rich and the family.
