Obituary for Rita J. Farabaugh
FARABAUGH - Rita Jane (Borlie), 83, Munster, passed away Oct. 1, 2015, at home. Born Feb. 22, 1932, at the family home in Alverda, Pa., daughter of John and Mary (Moyer) Borlie. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Myron A. Farabaugh; and siblings, Ralph T. Borlie, Leo J. Borlie, Cletus P. Borlie and Irene T. Gray (James). Survived by siblings, John M. Borlie, married to the former Regina Klatt; Hilda M., wife of Thomas E. Sossong; Mary M., wife of J. George Plunkett; Ann L., wife of Ron E. Vena; and Frances A. Borlie. Also survived by sisters-in-law, Cathy (Gailey) Borlie and Pearl (Chalan) Borlie; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. After graduating high school, Rita worked as a secretary for the Farm Bureau of Ebensburg. She was a graduate with high honors from Indiana University, where she received her master's degree in education. She taught third grade for 33 years at Central Cambria schools. While there, she was rated one of the nation's top elementary school teachers. She attended St. Francis Xavier Church, Cresson, and attended St. Michaels Basilica, Loretto, where she taught CCD classes. She volunteered at the Carmelite Monastery and she was a member of the Legion of Mary and Altar and Rosary Society. Rita's family was very important to her. She cared for her elderly parents and her brother, Ralph, in their last days. Her faith filled life was an example to all who knew and loved her. She willingly offered help to everyone that she met and her constant advice to all was "Remember, be the best you, you can possibly be." She would tell her little students when she taught, "If I can do it, you can do it even better." Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Michael Basilica, Loretto, Father John D. Byrnes, celebrant. Committal, church cemetery.
