Obituary for Robert George
George, Robert "Bob"- 71 of Portage. Passed away on March 4, 2014 in Johnstown. Born June 23, 1942 in Portage. The son of Walter and Catherine (Bartosh) George. Preceded in death by parents, and brothers Bill and Barry George. Survived by loving wife of 49 years: Delores "Dee" (Newfield) George and daughters: Maria wife of Kevin Reighard of Salix and Cathy wife of Wayne Wright of Wilmore and grandchildren: Kraig, Kody, Brady, Samantha and Julianna "Pete". Also survived by brother: Walter "Snook" George. A retired master mechanic with Stagers Chevrolet and Buick in Portage. Bob was a lifetime member of the Portage Volunteer Fire Company and an active member of the Portage Summerfest Committee. He was a member of the Portage Legion, VFW and the Moose Lodge 131, where he served as a Jr. Governor with a fellowship degree. Bob also belonged to the Benscreek Social and Citizens Club, the Lilly PNA, the McDonalds Morning Crew and the Backroom Guys. He also was a parishoner of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church with his wife Dee. Most importantly Bob was a family man. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and he enjoyed Sunday Dinners with his family. Bob was a hard worker and a good friend to all that he knew. He will be unbelievably missed by his family and all who knew him. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Hammer Street, in Portage. Committal in St. Marys Church Cemetery in Portage. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contribution be made in Bobs name to the Portage Area Summerfest, C/O 725 E. Wesley Avenue, Portage, PA 15946.
