Obituary for Robert W. Whitcomb
Whitcomb, Robert W., 91 of Portage, passed away on May 26, 2024 in Ebensburg. He was born on May 12, 1933 in Barnesboro. Bob was the son of William and Mary (Hall) Whitcomb. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances “Fritz” (Kunko) Whitcomb, his daughter, Elaine Leydig, his son-in-law, Michael Toth, his sisters, Gwen and Eleanor and his companion, Janet Buchinsky.
Bob is survived by his children: David Whitcomb of Johnstown, Laura Sieg of Lilly, Barbara wife of David Murphy, Portage, Chris Toth of Ohio, Jim Whitcomb of Portage and son-in-law: Joe Leydig and his fiance’ Tammy (Thomas) Piatak of Portage. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren: Jessica, Kelly, Katie, Noel, Buck, Ethan, Scott, Mandy, Christian, Annie, Michaela, Zack, Gabriel,
Melanie, Gracie, his great grandchildren: Gage, Kolbe, Sidney, Conner, Gemma and Avarie and his special cousin, Karen Hall. Bob was the brother of John Whitcomb and his wife Betty, Richard Whitcomb and Sandy Harrington and her husband Dick.
He was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. He was stationed in Germany as a radio operator. He was a craftsman by trade and was lastly employed by Iron City Sash and Door Company. Bob loved all Portage Area sports and he was a Penn State football fan. He enjoyed American history, especial the Battle of Gettysburg and the Civil War.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11 AM, Fr. Thomas Stabile. Committal in Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Portage. Graveside military rites by the Portage Ritual Team. Online condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com
