Obituary for Ronald Francis Davis

Davis, Ronald Francis “RD” - 80, of Portage was called to his eternal rest, Wednesday evening, November 4th, 2020, joining his daughter Shari and sons Randy and Ryan “Mooner” in heaven. “RD” was born October 27th, 1940 in (Jamestown), Portage, PA to, Joseph Davis Sr. and Stella (Inman) Davis. Along with his parents and children, “RD” is preceded in death by his in-laws Anthony and Gertrude Sossong, brother Joseph Davis Jr., and sister Vivian Kunko. On April 12th, 1961 Ron married his beloved wife Shirley (Sossong) in Lancaster, PA. They enjoyed 59 years of love and family together. With family always coming first, “RD” was the beloved Dad of Rick and wife Bonnie (Hochrein), Ron and wife Karen (Myher), and Rob and wife Laurie (Ronan) and was always a huge supporter of all their endeavors. “RD’s” grandchildren were his pride and joy. He and Shirley never missed any of their sporting events or performances. Proud to call him “Pap” are Trevor and wife Kelsie (Spaid) Davis, Bryce Davis, Kyle Davis, Dominic Davis, Camryn Davis and Annalise Davis. His newest pride and joy was his great-granddaughter, Ella Rae Davis. Ron will be greatly missed by many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews and many, many friends. A 1958 graduate of Portage Area High School, Ron was a member of the Mustang basketball team. “RD” was employed as an iron worker, spending much of his career at Bethlehem Mine 33 and at ITR. “RD’s” love of baseball started at a young age and followed him throughout his life. This passion led him to coach the Jamestown Rod and Gun Little League for over 25 years. Ron was an avid fan of the Portage Mustangs, Penn State Nittany Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. He was also a member of the Jamestown Rod and Gun Club. The Davis family warmly welcomes all family and friends to “RD’s” viewing and visitation on Sunday, November 8th, 2020 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at the Matthew Decort Funeral Home, 532 Main Street, Portage.
