Obituary for Tom E. Myers
Myers, Thomas E.“Tom” – 70 of Portage, passed away on February 24, 2022 in Somerset. He was born on November 3, 1951 in Johnstown. Tom was the son of Earl and Eileen (Prunier) Myers. He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Barbara A. (Koza) Myers, mother and father-in-law: John and Anna (Ridella) Koza and brothers-in-law: Bob Bellvia and John Koza.
He is survived by his daughters: Wendy, wife of Shawn McCarter of Murrysville and Whitney Myers and companion Max Gossard of Portage and his granddaughters: Summer McCarter of Murrysville and Lybbi Seaman of Portage. Tom was the brother of Jim Myers and wife Frann of Cary, NC; Eileen, wife of Ron Gruse of Portage and Ed Myers and wife Janet of Portage.
He is also survived by his in-laws: Joseph Koza and wife Dawn of Camphill; Maryann Bellvia of Summerhill; Anna, wife of Charlie Dixon of Cabot, AR; Monica, wife of Jerry Lubinsky of Douglasville; Peter Koza and wife Mary of Mantua, NJ; Regina, wife of Dr. Dale Goughnour of Portage; Stephanie, wife of Brad Blackington of Carmel, IN; Dianna Koza of Vienna, OH, Fred Seaman of Portage, who was like a son to him and numerous special nieces, nephews and cousins.
Tom was a life member of the Portage Area Volunteer Fire Company. He served as a former fire Chief for both Cassandra and Portage Volunteer Fire Company. He was a former Pennsylvania State Fire Instructor at the Harrisburg Community College. He enjoyed going on bus trips and vacationing at the beach with his wife Barb and family. Tom treated everyone as a friend, enjoyed finding commonalities with new acquaintances, and was never short on having a story for you.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 28, 2022 at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, Celebrant. Committal will be private to the family.
