Madigan, Velma A. “Mim” – 91 of Martinsburg, formerly of Portage, passed away on August 2, 2024 in Roaring Springs. She was born on July 31, 1933 in Portage at home. She was the daughter of Thomas W. and Clara U. (Klein) Madigan. Mim is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Gerald Madigan, Mary Von Lunen, Mildred Blair and Helen “Tootie” Brewer. She is lovingly survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their extended families.
Mim was a retired administrative assistant with over 38 years of service for The Office of Occupational and Vocational Rehabilitation. She also served as a former hospice volunteer. Mim was a life member of the National Rehabilitation Association, the Portage Area Historical Society and the Portage Area Womens Club. She was a proud member of the former St. Josephs Roman Catholic Church (Holy Family Parish) in Portage. Mim was an accomplished ballroom dancer and she competed in many competitions in her younger days. She enjoyed trips to the casinos, playing bingo, bridge and pinochle, traveling, keeping in touch with friends and relatives on her computer in the evenings and the occasional manhattan. Mim enjoyed the activities and friendships at her new residence at Homewood in Martinsburg. She looked forward every year to her trips at Christmastime to Connecticut to spend time with her niece, Diane Randall. Most important to Mim, was spending time with her nieces and nephews. She was known not only as Aunt Mim to them but also as their favorite aunt and fairy godmother.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 PM on Thursday, August 8th, 2024 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. in Portage. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 9th, 2024 at 11 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Thomas Stabile, celebrant.
Entombment in Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Portage. In lieu of flowers Mim suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Portage Volunteer Fire Company, The Crichton-McCormick Park and/or the Portage Area Historical Society. On-line condolences may be made at www.decortfh.com
