Obituary for Vernon L. Sybert
Sybert Vernon L. - 96 of State College formerly of Portage. Vernon passed away on October 9, 2012 at Mount Nittany Medical Center. He was born on January 8, 1916 in Portage Township. He is the son of John and Elizabeth (Biller) Sybert, and was preceded in death by parents and these siblings: Fabian Sybert, Margaret Keenan, Jennie Proudfit, William Sybert, Graven Sybert, Elizabeth Malloy and Kenneth Sybert. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Vernon was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Vernon is a 1934 graduate of Portage Township High School and a 1938 graduate of St. Francis College where he earned his bachelor's degree. He was a World War II Army Air Corp Veteran, member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, and the Portage Amvets. Vernon received excellent personal and professional care from the staffs of Elmcroft Senior Living and Mount Nittany Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Wilmore, Fr. Robert Reese, Celebrant. Committal will be in St. Bartholomew Church Cemetery with graveside Military Rites by the Portage Veterans Ritual Team. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vernon's name to People Helping People in care of St. Joseph Church, Portage.
