Obituary for Vincent E. Sweeney
Sweeney, Vincent E. 65 of Portage, died September 22, 2022 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born on February 24, 1957 in Verdon, France. Vince was the son of William and Ramona (Stombaugh) Sweeney. He is preceded in death by his father, and his infant daughter: Patricia Anne.
He is survived by his mother, loving wife of 40 years, Vicky (Stinson) Sweeney, son: Garrett (Joelle) Sweeney of Salix, daughters: Vanessa Farren of Portage and Chelsea (Brad) Ried of Westland, MI. He is also survived by his grandchildren: James, Haylee and Ashley Farren, Cierra and Logan Sumner and Kaylee Patterson, his sisters: Debbie (Galen) Baxter and Kim (Scott) Forst, both of Portage and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and in-laws.
Vince was the President of Sweeney Oil Company, Inc. DBA: Ray Oil and Gas Company in Portage. He was the President and Treasurer of the Jamestown PNA Lodge 1068. He also served on the board of the Ebensburg Country Club. Vince was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and pool player. He belonged to T.A.P Pool League, where he was MVP more than once. He traveled the Country with his championship softball team for many years. Vince was a former Portage Area Mustang Football coach for over 10 years.
Anyone that knew Vince, knows that he was a kind, loving and generous man. He was always quick to lend a hand to those in need. He believed in giving back. His moral compass was always on point. Vince was a quiet yet influential man. He remained stoic until his dying day. He will be missed by many but his presence and contributions will be felt long after he is gone.
