Obituary for Walter D. Zabrosky
91 of Portage, passed away on May 28, 2020 in Altoona. He was born on March 31, 1929 in Colver, PA. He was the son of Walter and Rose (Rackavan) Zabrosky. Merve is preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Virginia M. “Virge” (Roberts) Zabrosky and his son-in-law: Joe Casey and granddaughter: Erin Casey.
Merve is survived by his loving daughters: Sandy Casey and companion Tom Waskowsky of Portage, Joyce wife of Don “Harry” Benton of Portage and Kristy wife of Dan Haugen of VA and her grandchildren: Jody Casey, Jason Casey and wife Saadia, Jenelle wife of Matt Bienvenue, Justin Benton and wife Lacey, Becky Benton, Alex Illig and wife Rachel, Alyssa wife of Billy Eckert and great grandchildren: Ava, Ashton, Sydney, Gavin and Alyssa. He is also survived by his siblings: Edward Zabrosky and wife Janet of Loretto, Richard Zabrosky and wife Carol of Apollo, PA and Cecelia wife of Joe Prosloid of Punxstawney and a sister-in-law: Helen Garver of Pittsburgh and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his faithful canine companion: Tinkerbell.
Merve served his Country proudly in the United States Army. He was a WWII Veteran. Merve was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Portage and of the Former Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Polish Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Ushers Club. He was a retired Steelworker for Bethlehem Steel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking around town and spaghetti dinners. In the past Merve enjoyed his daily routine of Mass at Church and then trips to Stagers Store.
Due to public health concerns of COVID-19 and recommendations by the PA Department of Health and the Catholic Diocese, visitation and funeral service will be private and for the immediate family.
