Obituary for Walter E. George
. “Snook” – 77 of Portage, passed away on May 6, 2022 in Altoona. He was born on January 16, 1945 in Portage. Walter was the son of Walter and Katherine (Bartosh) George. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers: William ”Bill”, Barry and Robert “Bob” George.
Snook is survived by his nieces and nephews: Maria wife of Kevin Reighard of Salix, Cathy wife of Wayne Wright of Wilmore, Barry George, Jr. and Companion Danyelle of Portage and Melissa George of Portage, great nieces and nephews: Kraig, Kody (Katelynn) Reighard, Brady (Gabriella), Samantha, Julianna “Pete” Wright and Emma and Rylee George and also a great great Reighard niece soon to be born. He is also survived by his former wife and friend, Cynthia (Mastaler) George of Portage.
Walter served his Country Proudly. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a Vietnam Military Honor Medal and Purple Heart Recipient. Snook was formerly self employed and he owned and operated for over 30 years, Walt George Construction and Westside Pizza and Subs. He also served as a local Police officer in Portage in is younger days. Snook enjoyed collecting and rebuilding classic cars and entering them in car shows.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Tuesday, May 10, 2022 at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc in Portage. Committal will be private to the immediate family.
