Obituary for William D. Baker

Baker, William D. – 81 of Portage, passed away on January 25, 2025 at home. He was born on December 20, 1943 in Ypsilanti, MI. He was the son of Prudy (Geohagan) and William Leford Baker. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son, Henry and his granddaughter, Danielle.


William is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn (Ruiz) Baker of Portage and his children: John Wilhelm and companion, Wanda Hagerich of St. Michael, Carl Wilhelm of Portage, Carolyn “Diane” wife of Mark Taylor of East Conemaugh and April wife of Raymond Wonders of Johnstown. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sean, Mia, Alex, Raymond, Angelica, Samantha and Jordan and numerous great grandchildren.


William was the brother of Lera Helen wife of Steven Smith of San Diego, CA. He was a US Army Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Portage American Legion. He retired with 25 years of service from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Nuclear Physics. William was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed music, crossword puzzles and spending time with his family. 


Funeral Services will be private to the family.
