Obituary for James M. Salony
Salony, James M., 85 of Lilly, passed away on April 30, 2024 in Portage. He was born on April 26, 1939. Jim was the son of Michael E. and Elizabeth M. (Leahey) Salony. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia L. Salony (Stephan Halpern) and Marie A. Berry.
Jim is survived by his siblings: Timothy J. Salony of Lilly, PA, Kim D. Salony of Louisville, CO, Mark A. Salony of Lilly, PA, and Michele E. Maurer (Jim) of Cassandra, PA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was formerly a Professor, Academic Dean, and acting President of Mount Aloysius College. Family was very important to Jim and he was a devoted and loving care giver to his mother throughout her life. He was a local historian and world traveler, having visited over 50 countries. He enjoyed weekend flea markets in the area to find many treasures. Education and Science was very important to Jim so much that he donated his body to the Department of Forensic Anthropology at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
The Salony Family will receive a reception of friends form 9AM until time of 10AM Mass on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church in Lilly, PA. Fr. Matthew Reese and Fr. Timothy Harris, Celebrants. Committal will be held at a later date in the future.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s honor to the local Knights. Donations should be sent to Our Lady of the Alleghenies - 200 Cambria Street, Lilly PA, 15938 Att: Knights Of Columbus.
