Obituary for Griffith N. Spaid, Sr.
Spaid, Griffith "Griff", Sr. - 82 of Portage. Passed away December 12, 2012 at home. Born December 16, 1929 in LaJose, PA. The son of the late Norman and Octa (Spencer) Spaid. Preceeded in death by parents, son Griffith Spaid, Jr. and brother Harold Spaid. Survived by loving wife of 60 years: Elizabeth "Betty" (Hancharik) Spaid and sons: Robert Spaid of Portage and Richard Spaid and wife JoAnn of Somerset. Also survived by grandchildren: Toni Lynn, Jody and Chris and 7 great grandchildren. Brother of Jean Scarton of Pittsburgh and Robert Spaid and wife Janet of Portage. Griff retired in 1983 from Bethlehem Mines as a supervisor of training. He formerly played baseball for Cambria County in the Industrial League, Ehrenfeld, Ebensburg and Everett Legion. He enjoyed and played all sports. He was a former manager of Little League Baseball Teams and an umpire in the Cambria County Industrial League. He was an avid golfer and he enjoyed his time at Maple Crest Golf Course. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8PM on Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. in Portage, where a funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10AM. Committal will be held in LaJose Cemetery.
