Obituary for James Irvin
Irvin, James - 76 of Portage. Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, June 9, 2014, at Memorial Medical Center. Born July 13, 1937 in Beaverdale. The son of Roy and Ellen (Fern) Irvin. Preceded in death by parents, and siblings: Ida Mae Irvin, Betty Havyer, Roy, Bill, Jack and Dick Irvin. Survived by loving wife: Dorothy (Tutsock) Irvin, daughter Michele wife of Brian Pollock, grandchildren: Brieanne Irvin, Brian Pollock, Jr. and wife Trynda (Martin) and Brandon Pollock, Sr. Also survived by great grandchildren: Dominic Roudybush and Peyton Rae Feeney. Brother of Blair and Glenn Irvin, Barbara Kinley, Jane Barr, Patricia Caldwell and Mary Lou Shuniak. Jim served his Country for 23 years as a Master Sergeant and Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a former employee of the United States Postal Service serving as a mail carrier in the Portage Area and a part time currier for Cambria Thrift. He was a past treasurer and member of the Benscreek Social and Citizens Club, where he enjoyed bowling and throwing horseshoes. He also was a former league bowler at Hi-Way Lanes in Portage. He was an avid fisherman and he enjoyed the outdoors. He was a fan of all sports. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM on Friday at the Matthew R. Decort Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. in Portage, where a Vigil service will be held Friday evening. Funeral Mass will be held at 12 PM on Saturday at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in Portage, Fr. Andrew Draper, Celebrant. Committal will follow in St. Francis Xavier Church Cemetery in Cresson. Graveside Military Rites by the Portage Ritual Team. The family would like to thank Dr. Mark Ratchford and Conemaugh Regional Hospice. Also a special thank you to the Pallative Care Unit at Memorial, for their outstanding compassion, care and support for James and his family.
